Did You Choke?

NOTES‍ ‍FROM CINDY BROWN

My golf coach was talking to one of his students the other day. The student said, “I choked.” And my coach immediately said, “No you didn’t. You just didn’t execute properly.”

Then he explained something interesting. A choke is when you don’t have a plan. But this guy did have a plan.It just didn’t go the way he expected.

And that got me thinking. How many times in our lives do we beat ourselves up for “failing” The truth is we either didn’t plan well enough, or the plan simply didn’t play out the way we imagined. Because here’s the reality. Things almost never go exactly how we think they will. And honestly, that’s okay. You adjust. You pivot. You learn something.

Then you go again.

Progress rarely looks perfect. But it does look like people who are willing to keep moving instead of making the miss mean something about themselves.

This is the kind of thing I help people with all the time. Helping them see what’s actually happening instead of the story they’re telling themselves about it. Because once the story shifts, the next move becomes a lot clearer.

So here’s the question I’ll leave you with today:

Where in your life have you been telling yourself you “choked”… when really you just need to adjust the plan and go again?
