My Guilty Pleasure Teaching Life Lessons
NOTES FROM CINDY BROWN
Confession. I watch The Real Housewives of Orange County.
I know. I know.
Anyway, the women were giving Heather Dubrow a hard time because she was still friends with Tamra after Tamra had done some questionable things.
Heather's response "Just because I don't agree with someone doesn't mean we can't still be friends."
YES!!! Can we please bring this energy back?
Somewhere along the way, we've decided that if someone doesn't vote like us, parents like us, spend money like us, run their business like us, think like us or swear like us (LOL) They're automatically "our peeps" no longer.
Really? I have people in my life I don't agree with. I still love them.
I listen to podcasts where I don't agree with everything being said. I still learn something. I follow people online who occasionally make me roll my eyes. And then five minutes later they say something brilliant.
Life isn't black or white. It's not either/or.
It's AND.
People can be wonderful, AND imperfect.
You can disagree with someone, AND still respect them.
Someone can have one opinion you don't like AND still add tremendous value to your life.
The better question isn't, "Do I agree with everything they say?"
The better question is, "Do they add to my life or subtract from it?"
That's a much more powerful question.
This Week's Challenge
Think of one person you disagree with.
"What's one thing I can learn from them?"
You don't have to change your mind. You don't have to agree, you just might consider staying open.
Bravo is teaching life lessons, I’m calling it "research."
