I Can’t Trust Mom
NOTES FROM CINDY BROWN
I had a belief come up with a client recently, “If I can't trust Mom and Dad, who CAN I trust?”
And before you immediately think, "Well, I trust my parents, Cindy."
Hang with me. Those old beliefs don't always show up wearing a name tag that says, HELLO. I'M YOUR CHILDHOOD BELIEF.
They sound like, "I'll just do it myself." Not delegating because nobody will do it as well as you. Having a backup plan for your backup plan. Expecting people to disappoint you. Not asking for help because depending on someone feels, uncomfortable. Micromanaging the poor person you hired to take things OFF your plate. People pleasing because somewhere along the way you learned that keeping everyone happy kept everything okay. Or questioning yourself over and over because you don't completely trust your own decisions.
And here's the kicker, You don't know until you do. That's when you say, “WTF. Everything makes sense now. I had no idea.”
Exactly, you weren't consciously walking around thinking, “I can't trust Mom and Dad.” You were simply living through a filter created a long time ago. And no, this isn't about blaming Mom and Dad for everything wrong with your life.
At some point we're adults and we get to clean up our own shit. And CREATE a different reality.
THIS WEEK'S CHALLENGE
Notice where you automatically think, “I'll just do it myself.”
“What do I believe would happen if I actually trusted someone else to handle this?”
Then use the tools to identify it, clear it and rewire it.
