Success Makes You?
NOTES FROM CINDY BROWN
I was listening to a business podcast the other day where Codie Sanchez was interviewing Robert Herjavec.
Codie told a story about teasing Andy Frisella (the founder of 1st Phorm) for having so many fancy cars.
His response?
"Why are you bashing what inspires me? You buy businesses because that inspires you."
She said she immediately thought, "Oof... you're right."
How often do we judge someone else's success simply because it doesn't look like ours? Someone buys a Lamborghini, someone else buys another company, someone else travels the world, someone else buys the lake house.
Who cares?
Here's what I believe. Money doesn't change who you are. It amplifies who you already are.
I've said this to clients for years, and Robert said something very similar:
If you're an asshole before you have money, you'll probably be an even bigger asshole with money.
Money isn't the problem. Your beliefs about money are. So instead of rolling your eyes at someone else's success, what if you checked within yourself?
What if, instead of judging it, you thought, "If it's possible for them, I know it's possible for me too." That's a much more powerful question.
This Week's Challenge
Pay attention to your first reaction when you see someone else's success.
Did you celebrate them? Or bash them? Then ask yourself: "What belief is this showing me?"
